I’m Vici, one half of The Accidental Gardeners. The other half is my husband Andy. We started gardening, like so many others, at the start of the first lockdown. We started an Instagram account to document our journey and came across loads of other people beginning their journey too. Not only did we learn a lot very quickly, but we also made a lot of friends through the gardening community.
We very quickly realised the potential of gardening. Not just to have a beautiful space to call your own, but all the positive impact that it can have on your wellbeing. Growing up, I always thought gardening was boring. It was one of those things that inevitably everyone “gets in to” when they get to a certain age. How wrong could I be! Gardening is creative, mindful, relaxing, exciting, surprising, calming, and so much more!
The other really important thing that gardening has taught me is the value of nature and the world around us. Being close to nature has made me re-evaluate many aspects of my own life. Making me more conscious about water conservation, more aware of the consequences of micro plastics and other pollutants in our environment, and how we as gardeners all have a part to play in this. I also have a passion for protecting our oceans and all of the life that should be protected in them.
I wanted to start this blog as one thing I love just as much as gardening is writing. I hope to share our journey with you and give you a few tips along the way.
To be completely transparent, I sometimes get asked to promote products. I’ll always make this clear in any posts. I also only ever accept products that fit with my own beliefs and are from companies that visibly care about the environment.
So, welcome to our Cottage Garden. I hope you enjoy this blog. Please do drop us a message 🙂
